Oral Cancer Screening Chicago, IL
Dental exams are a critical part of maintaining your oral health. They allow us to check your mouth for signs of decay, damage, redness, swelling, and more. By detecting issues in their earliest stages, we can take action and recommend the best treatments to restore your mouth before the problem grows worse. At Medhat Dental Excellence, we look for more than tooth decay and gum disease. We also perform an oral cancer screening.
Oral cancer, or cancer of the mouth, can strike anywhere in your oral cavity, including your lips, gums, cheeks, the floor of the mouth, palate, or far back near the entrance of your throat. It affects over 40,000 Americans every year. If not diagnosed and treated early, oral cancer can be fatal. If cancer has begun to spread to the lymph nodes, the likelihood of survival after five years is approximately 60%. If it has spread to other areas of the body, survival after five years drops to about 38%. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to surviving.
