Dental Cleanings Chicago IL

Caring for your mouth is essential for maintaining a healthy mouth and a beautiful smile. There are several components to optimal oral care. The American Dental Association recommends that you brush at least twice a day and floss once a day. It also recommends that you have professional dental visits at least twice a year. A part of these visits includes a dental cleaning of your teeth. At Medhat Dental Excellence and Artistic Smiles Family Dental Care we can provide you with the regular dental cleanings you need to optimize your oral health and keep your whole mouth happy, healthy, and beautiful.

Why are Dental Cleanings So Important?

Dental cleanings are a major part of optimal oral health. Brushing and flossing at home are also integral. These home oral care habits help to limit the buildup of plaque, a sticky substance that forms on the teeth, and oral bacteria. These things may be naturally occurring, but an overabundance of them can be detrimental to your mouth. Both plaque and oral bacteria can irritate the gum tissue, causing gum disease. The acids they produce can erode your enamel, causing tooth decay and cavities. Plaque can even harden into tartar, a substance that cannot be removed, no matter how often you brush your teeth. Even if you adhere to the ADA guidelines, however, you may still develop oral health problems. There are some areas of the mouth that simply cannot be reached or that go overlooked. Plaque and bacteria can build in these spaces, causing significant damage.

While only visiting the office for two cleanings a year might not seem like a big deal, these visits are important. With a professional cleaning, we can eliminate all buildup from the surfaces of your teeth. Using the latest tools and technologies, we are also able to see and reach, the areas of your mouth that you may miss on a regular basis. In helping you to keep your teeth thoroughly clean, we help you to prevent serious oral health problems later.

Your Dental Cleaning

The professional dental cleaning is a simple, straightforward procedure. We begin by using a special tool to scrape the surfaces of your teeth. We reach every area of your teeth, including the spaces between them, the area around your gum line, and the areas that you may be unable to reach on your own. We take the time required to remove all buildup, including the most stubborn tartar.

Once the teeth have been scraped clean, they are polished. Polishing your teeth involves the use of an electric handpiece, with a special rotating head, and dental polish. The polish contains abrasives in it, and they scrub your teeth to a beautiful shine as the head of the electric handpiece spins. After polishing, we then floss your teeth. Flossing allows us to help you remove any stubborn buildup from between your teeth. It also enables us to remove any debris or polish that may have collected between your teeth during your cleaning. For some, this is the end of the cleaning. For others, a fluoride treatment may be applied.

Benefits of a Dental Cleaning

Dental cleanings offer several benefits. One of the most obvious benefits is that we help to remove stubborn buildup from your teeth. We can reach the areas of your mouth that you have missed, and we can remove even the most stubborn buildup. By helping you to keep your teeth clean, we help you to prevent serious oral health issues from developing. This prevents the need for invasive, expensive, treatments later on. Dental cleanings freshen your breath and whiten your teeth. With a beautiful, clean smile, you will gain a boost of confidence.
